Old Forester was one of only a handful of distilleries that received a special permit to continue production during Prohibition. During the 1920s Owsley Brown I, who was then the president of the company, laid down a barrel sample that had been batched at the beginning of Prohibition. This expression is based on that barrel sample, created to celebrate the company’s uninterrupted legacy of whiskey distillation. Bottled at 115 proof, the nose has strong notes of cherry jam and oak spice. The taste includes caramel and some nice malty nutty flavors, along with spices and cedar. The finish is nice and long with a hint of campfire marshmallows.
